Some exciting news today! The Book of Eli has according to this article at Hitfix beat Avatar on the box-office on it’s premiere day January 15. Read more below!

Knocking “Avatar” off its box office perch is no easy task, but Denzel Washington’s “The Book of Eli” accomplished that feat on Friday.

The post-apocalyptic thriller gave Washington his second best opening Friday after “American Gangster” with a strong $11.7 million. That’s pretty impressive considering “Eli’s” R-rating and the competition from “Avatar.” The Hughes Brothers’ latest looks like it will do anywhere from $40-45 million for the four-day Martin Luther King Day weekend which means recouping its reported $80 million budget should be an easy task. In fact, “Eli’s” expected success along with “The Blind Side’s” massive box office take makes longtime background player Alcon Entertainment the industry’s brightest star at the moment (someone might need a raise over there).

As for “Avatar,” don’t cry for Jim Cameron’s epic blockbuster. The PG-13 picture still made $10.4 million on Friday and could still make a comeback opposite “Eli” when all is said and done. The Oscar contender’s current domestic take is a staggering $460.9 million as it sets “Titanic’s” record $600 million tally within its sights.

With today’s release of The Book of Eli, MTV has chosen Mila for their latest The Evolution of.. and has alongside an article posted a time line of her career so far with a picture from each of her year’s in the spotlight.

With “The Book of Eli” hitting theaters today, it seems only natural that we would choose to check out the evolution of its starring actress, Mila Kunis. The rising starlet seems to be everywhere the past few years: first with her break out film role in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” in 2008, and then alongside Mark Wahlberg in “Max Payne,” and then this past year in “Extract.” What may surprise you is, despite her recognizable face, Mila hasn’t been in that many major projects since she first broke onto the scene 12 years ago.

Born in the Ukraine on August 14, 1983, Mila moved to Los Angeles with her family at age 8 in 1991. It took only a year before Mila started getting involved in acting, starring in commercials for Lisa Frank, Barbie and Payless. In 1995, she got her first television role on “The John Larroquette Show,” and she continued to get minor television and film roles until her audition at age 14 on “That ’70s Show.”

The story of how she got the gig on the television series that would make her a star is the stuff of pure luck and wit: the auditions for her character were for ages 18 and older, so 14-year-old Mila informed the show’s casting staff she would be turning 18 “on her birthday.” Needless to say, she landed the role, the show’s creators gave her props for her creative way of getting into the audition, and Mila turned 18 four years later after four very healthy seasons as Jackie Burkhart. The show concluded in 2006 after eight seasons and 201 episodes.
